Covid19, cancer drugs smuggled from Gurugram to Iraq at hefty cost, 5 held

The buzziest city has again caught the attention and this time because of the international smugglers. These smugglers are procuring COVID-19 treatment drugs and smuggling them abroad at ten times the cost.

According to The Tribune, Gurugram Drug Control department, along with the local police, busted an international drug cartel seizing drugs, including narcotics and COVID-19 drugs—Remdesivir and Favipiravir— and cash of approximately Rs 75 lakhs.

Four Iraqi nationals and one Uzbek woman was arrested from Sector 57 and Sector 47.

While authorities are yet to reveal any details, sources claim that these foreign nationals, without any valid passport and visas, would procure the COVID-19 drugs and anti-cancer drugs on MRP from Gurugram and send it to Iraq.

The drug Favipiravir, which is available at Rs 250 a strip, is sold in Iraq for Rs 7,500.

Similarly, Remedesvir, which is available at 5,400 a vile in Gurugram is reportedly being sold at one lakh a vile in Iraq.

The police are yet to reveal the investigation details.
