Taking cognizance of the charge sheet filed by Delhi Police Crime Branch, the Saket Court on Thursday ordered a notice to self-styled Godman Daati Maharaj to appear before the count on January 23, 2019. Along with Daati, the court also issued the notice to his three brothers asking them to appear before the court on January 23, 2019.
The chargesheet was filed against Maharaj and three of his brothers by the Delhi police on October 1 for allegedly raping a woman devotee under sections 376 (punishment for rape, with a maximum term of seven years) and 377 (unnatural offences) of the IPC.
The woman disciple had alleged that she was sexually assaulted inside Shani Dham two years ago. Because of fear and social stigma, she didn’t file a complaint earlier as she felt intimidated by the self-styled Godman.
The Delhi High Court on November 19 had directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to freely probe the allegations and file its report to the magistrate who was dealing with the matter.
