IRCTC Online Ticket Booking: 5 things you must know before planning a vacation

The official e-ticketing and catering website, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has come up with an upgradation that brings in new features to serve passengers. To make it easy for people planning to travel during the upcoming Puja vacations including Dussehra, Durga Puja, Diwali to their family, relatives or simply a chill-out vacation plans, the IRCTC has introduced some interesting features in the latest upgradation.

Here are five important tips that will help you in planning your journey:

Ticket Confirmation possibilities:

The rush in trains during an “On Season” is like a by-default thing in India. So, while booking a train ticket, don’t miss to check the CNF Probability, giving thought to the excessive crowd during festivals. This new feature is introduced to give a seat conformation prediction to passengers before they proceed to book tickets.

IRCTC VIKALP Scheme:

Packed trains are normal things in Indian Railways. During rush season, it worsens and for those travelling long-distance it is worst with the jam-packed rail traffic. There comes the VIKALP scheme for you. Even if your tickets are booked but have a waitlisted reservation, you can choose VIKALP scheme to switch train and the IRCTC will help you to accommodate in alternate trains. The passengers have an option of choosing maximum 7 trains.

Special Trains:

Indian Railways has a habit of introducing special trains during extra rush seasons. Regular Railways Passengers are advised to check special trains to get confirmed tickets. This time Indian Railways has started more special trains for the convenience of the passengers travelling during puja vacations.

Railway Meals Menu:

On the eve of Puja Indian Railways has added Navratri Special meals which can be booked 2 hours before scheduled journey on the e-catering website. To avoid being overcharged by vendors, passengers can check rates of food items on the ‘Menu on Rails’ app or website as well.

Track Your Train:

Delayed trains are a common thing in Indian Railways. During festive season when there are more special trains running, there is more rail traffic on the rail way, and more chances of delay in train timings for rail passengers. Therefore, to give the train status in advance, IRCTC offers ‘track your train’ option, where passengers can go and check their train status by providing the train name or number.
