After police crackdown on peaceful pro-jallikattu protest at Marina beach, Tamil Nadu main opposition party DMK staged a walkout in the state Assembly on Monday.

DMK working president and opposition leader MK Stalin criticised the police action on protesters at Marina beach demanding a permanent solution for holding the bull tame sport.

“It is condemnable that instead of holding talks with peaceful protesters, it has been attempted to end protests using police with an authoritarian mindset,” Stalin said in a statement.

The protesters had dubbed the ordinance, promulgated on Saturday, as a temporary measure and sought a ‘permanent solution’ for conduct of Jallikattu.

Most of the protestors lashed out against centre. Marina beach witnessed massive protest and sloganeering against Narendra Modi. At least 15 of Modi’s effigies being carried out on top of a bamboo made and later they were smashed in the sands as the police did not allow them to burn the same.

However, BJP treasurer SR Sekhar alleged the pro-jalikattu movement was hijacked by anti-nationals, including beef eating muslims, Maoists and tamil seperatists.

“Nearly 99.99% of protestors are spontaneously fighting for Jallikattu and it should be appreciated. But the struggle was infiltrated by Maoists, Tamil separatists and Muslim fundamentalists. There are at least 3,000 Muslims taking part in the protests and they hold Namaz prayers at the protest venue itself. Is it not an irony of sorts that those who eat beef are in the forefront of the Jallikattu struggle,” he said.

Meanwhile , protesters at Marina Beach sang the national anthem as they tried to resist the attempts to remove them from the site.
