Jharkhand: Man shot for not taking part in extortion, revealed

The murder case of Salman of Behera village, Ranchi who was allegedly shot by the police officials of the Piparwar police station in Chatra district has made a new development. The CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) has disclosed in its report submitted to the court after investigating the matter. Salman was killed for not participating in extortion and sharing money.

On the case front, on June 23, 2017 night, Salman was shot by a group of police officials. The prime job of Salman was to extort money from the drivers of trucks transporting coal from the Piparwar colliery. He used to give a portion of the extorted money to the officials at the Piparwar police station, according to report.

Salman, later, refused to give part to the police station. The police station in-charge Vinod Kumar Singh, then planned to remove Salman alias Raja from the road. The police station recorded false information about Salman to portray the murder as an encounter while committing the crime.

The deceased father registered a murder case on the second day of the incident. But the police and the CID had termed it as a case of non-intentional homicide. High Court Justice Anand Sen had ordered a probe by the CBI, terming the police and CID probe as a “poor investigation”.

Later, the Forensic investigation revealed that a complaint was filed by Munshi of the police station Sukhdev Prasad Yadav who has been promoted to ASI now. The complaint was registered on the thumb impression of a person named Shahid.

On August 21, 2018, the Ranchi High Court ordered an inquiry of the case to CBI. According to the CBI reports, while the police investigated the murder case as non-intentional homicide, the incident of accidental firing was filed in the charge sheet.

Vinod Kumar Singh (police in charge), Prem Kumar Mishra (ASI), Sukhdev Prasad Yadav (Munshi, now promoted to ASI), Ashok (Head Constable), Jitan Soren (Sepoy), Ravi Ram (Sepoy), Subodh Kumar Mehta (Sepoy), Jairam Prasad (Sepoy), Santosh Kumar (Sepoy) were found guilty and held for the murder.
