In an appalling incident, a 21-year-old young woman was burnt alive on Thursday. The incident happened early morning around 7 am at her house. The woman identified as Neethu lived near Ollukava Bhavathy Temple at Chiyyaram in Thrissur with her aunt and Grandparents.

People nearby came running hearing her cries but the woman has died before they could reach her for help. The passerby caught hold of Nitheesh, a native of Vadakkekad before he could flee from the scene and handed him over to the police.

Police sources say that the woman was stabbed before she was set ablaze. The victim was a student of engineering at Axis Engineering College in Kodakara. As per reports, her mother has passed away a few years back and father has re-married before that.

The accused is suspected to have gained entry into the house through the backdoor and the eyewitness also saw a motorcycle outside the woman’s house.

Only Neethu and her grandmother were alone at home when the incident took place.

Earlier last month, an abandoned lover has burnt a college student to death when she was on her way to college. After the incident, the lover tried to escape but the bystanders managed to catch him and handed him over to the police. He was arrested on March 13 for attempted murder. The accused had claimed that the two were in a relationship.
