Meerut: Murderer being taken to court flees by throwing liquor party for police

In a eye-clamping embarrassment for the Uttar Pradesh Police, a 50-year-old criminal named Baddan Singh escaped the police custody on Thursday afternoon while he was being taken to a Ghaziabad court.

Reportedly, Baddan Singh alias Baddo who has been serving life sentence for a murdering a lawyer in 1996, took the cops to a hotel and treated the with a liqour party following which he fled away.

As quoted by several media reports, Nitin Tiwari, Senior Superintendent of Police, Meerut said, “Baddo took the cops, who were escorting him, to a hotel on Dehli road in Meerut where his accomplices had thrown a liquor party. We have detained seven policemen, including an inspector, but they are still not in their senses. Baddo was lodged in Fatehgarh jail and was on way to a court in Ghaziabad in connection with hearing of a case. Nearly 10 cases, including those of murder and dacoity, are lodged against him. We hope to arrest him soon.”

Those detained are constables Omveer, Santosh, Sunil, Rajkumar, Bhupinder and Ihetashamam and police inspector of Farrukhabad, Deshraj Tyagi.

According to sources, the cops informed local police almost three hours after Baddo had disappeared from the hotel room.

Baddo was sentenced to life on October 31 for the murder of Ravinder Singh, a lawyer, in 1996. Known for his suave lifestyle, Baddo, a diehard fan of Al Pacino, is known for his bespoke tuxedos, designer shades, Swiss watches and luxury vehicles. The gangster owns a palatial house in Meerut and is known for staying in costly suits in five-star hotels.
