In an appalling incident, a 30-year-old resident in Ulhasnagar tried to set his girlfriend’s house on fire after her mother objected to their relationship.
As per media reports, the mother of the girl opposed to their relationship because the man was unemployed. On Monday, the accused asked the daughter’s hand for marriage and when he was refused, he threatened to put their house on fire. He lit a matchstick and threw it on a pile of clothes. The fire was immediately doused, but all the clothes were damaged.
The police have arrested the accused. The probe is underway. More details awaited.
However, this is not the first time, in a similar incident, a Mumbai man allegedly set his ex-girlfriend’s house in Andheri on fire in July, after the latter refused to speak to him. The accused was booked for attempting murder, molestation and causing mischief by setting a fire.
