Pune Residents Rush for LPG Cylinders: Residents of Pune began to panic buy cooking gas cylinders after they received information about potential gas supply interruptions. Long queues were reported outside several gas distribution centres, with lines stretching nearly one kilometre in some areas. Many people arrived early in the morning because they wanted to get refills, which they believed would be necessary due to ongoing West Asia conflicts that might disrupt LPG supplies to India.

The LPG Booking Volume Increased Immediately

During that period the gas distributors from Pune experienced an unusual surge in domestic LPG cylinder bookings. The dealers reported that their booking volume had increased dramatically within three days, which created difficulties for their delivery operations. The delivery service experienced longer waiting times because customers suddenly demanded more products than the business could provide.

Some agencies said daily bookings increased by nearly 30 to 40 percent compared to normal levels. At certain dealerships serving tens of thousands of customers, daily bookings jumped from about 800 to over 1,200, indicating a sudden rush triggered by fear of shortages.

“The queue is more than a kilometre long. People are anxious because if the situation escalates and supplies are affected, cooking at home could become difficult,” said a resident waiting outside a gas agency.

India imports a large share of its LPG from Middle Eastern countries. The Indian market experiences fuel supply concerns whenever shipping routes or production activities in the region face disruption.

Amid the panic buying, some residents have alleged that LPG cylinders are being sold illegally in the black market at inflated prices. According to local complaints, domestic cylinders that usually cost around ₹900 are reportedly being sold for ₹2,000 to ₹2,500, while commercial cylinders are being offered at even higher prices.

Restaurants and food businesses in Pune face problems because they cannot find commercial LPG cylinders. Some food establishments needed to decrease their operations while others needed to change their menus because they had insufficient supply.

Government Urges Public Not to Panic

The petroleum ministry and oil marketing companies report that the country currently has sufficient domestic LPG supplies. Authorities have urged citizens to avoid panic buying and unnecessary bookings because such behaviour creates artificial shortages.

Officials confirmed that supply chains continue to operate normally while domestic markets have enough LPG supply for their needs. Authorities have also warned distributors against hoarding and illegal sale of cylinders at inflated prices.

The distribution of LPG cylinders will proceed smoothly as oil companies and government agencies monitor the current situation. The supply chain operates normally at this moment but upcoming weeks will determine its future based on developments in West Asia.
