In an appalling incident, two government school teachers were attacked with acid by a bike-borne unidentified person on Thursday after they were returning home from school on their two-wheeler.

The teachers identified as Archana Meena and Hemlata Meena. Archana was rushed to the hospital as he suffered burns on the back while Hemlata was discharged after primary treatment.

Hemlata and Archana work in government secondary school and government primary school respectively in Gopalgarh village in Chamu, Jodhpur.

DSP of the area said that while they were returning home on a two-wheeler on Thursday after school, Hemlata was driving the vehicle and Archana was sitting at the back. A few miles away from the school, the motorist came from behind and threw acid on them. The acid burned Archana’s back and some of the drops fell on Hemlata’s hands.

They both were rushed to local Primary Health Centre but looking at Archana’s condition, she was referred to a hospital in Jodhpur.

”She is undergoing treatment at the hospital and is out of any danger. We are waiting for her condition to improve for recording her statement,” the official said.

Police are interrogating some suspects in the village and scanning the CCTV footage from the nearby area while the accused is on the run.

Both the teachers live in a rented house and had been transferred to the village schools a few months back.
