Verify e-challan message’s legitimacy: As a result of an increase in cybercriminal activities exploiting the growing popularity of e-challan payments, the Faridabad police have stepped up their efforts to safeguard citizens, according to police officials.

On Friday, DCP Headquarters and Cyber Crime Officer Hemendra Kumar Meena advised reporters not to respond hastily to e-challan messages received on mobile phones. Before making payments, he advised confirming the authenticity of the message, emphasising that acting too quickly could result in financial losses.

Meena explained that cybercriminals are forging messages that closely resemble authentic ones, replete with a deceptive link below the payment message. The officer told reporters that this is how perpetrators convince victims that their challan is genuine and can be paid by clicking the provided link.

“Authentic e-challan messages contain vital vehicle-specific information, such as engine and chassis numbers.” Meena was anxious.

By clicking on links sent by cybercriminals, users unwittingly permit hackers access to their mobile devices, according to the officer. After gaining control, these perpetrators quickly deplete bank accounts and debit/credit card balances.

Meena emphasised that genuine e-challan messages always include vehicle-specific information, whereas fraudulent ones lack this crucial detail. The officer added that legitimate e-challan communications are never sent from random mobile numbers.

Meena suggested accessing the website referenced in the message to confirm the validity of an e-challan. Faced with this escalating cyber threat, the Faridabad police are urging residents to exercise caution when interacting with e-challans in order to avoid falling victim to these fraudulent schemes.
