In the next four days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a similar situation in several regions of the state.

According to the statement, a cyclonic circulation has activated the monsoon, resulting in torrential rainfall across the state.

During a 90-minute period in the afternoon, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 126 mm and 95.8 mm of rainfall, respectively.

The state recorded 36,597 CC and 25,753 CG lightning strikes in the afternoon, according to the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) on X, formerly Twitter.

The Meteorological Department has advised individuals to seek shelter during thunderstorms.

A cyclonic circulation is also present over the northeastern Bay of Bengal, and another is expected to form over the northern Bay of Bengal around September 3, according to the director of the Regional Meteorological Centre here, H R Biswas.

In the 48 hours following its influence, a low-pressure area is anticipated to form.

As a result of the cyclonic circulation and probable low-pressure area, the southwest monsoon, which had been subdued in Odisha, will now bring heavy precipitation over the next three to four days, he said.
