Kerala: Seven students diagnosed with swine flu in Kozhikode

Manipal Institute of Virology has confirmed that seven students from government higher secondary school in Kozhikode have been diagnosed with swine flu (H1N1).

Around 176 persons which include 163 students and 13 teachers from the same school have contracted fever, after which, Kozhikode health department sent their blood samples to an advanced medical laboratory in Manipur that came up with seven positive cases of the H1N1 virus.

Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja informed the public that there is no need to panic as measures are already being taken to curb the spread of the fever, stated by Health Minister. She also added that a special medical team is set to visit the school on Thursday.

Students with the critical condition will be immediately shifted to an isolation ward, she said.

According to the reports, the affected students with H1N1 virus come from different areas of the district. Hence, the symptoms which were noticed such as throat ache, cough and high fever. Mostly students affected are from the 10th standard.

Since, many students have contracted with fever, it was decided that the school will remain closed on Thursday and Friday.
