Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the Delhi government’s ambitious ₹1 lakh crore Budget for the financial year 2025-26, marking a 31.5% increase from the previous year. Touted as a “historic budget,” it focuses on infrastructure, electricity, roads, and water, with the aim of transforming Delhi into an investment and innovation-friendly city.

Criticism of the Previous Government

CM Rekha Gupta called this budget a big step towards a “Viksit Delhi” (Developed Delhi). She targeted the previous AAP government, accusing them of mismanagement and claiming that government revenue was being siphoned off by liquor mafias and PWD contractors.

“The previous government failed on all fronts… The Yamuna was dirty, roads were broken, and pollution was at its peak. The Delhi Jal Board and DTC were running at losses. Dirty water and overflowing sewers had become the identity of Delhi. Running a government handed over in such a poor condition is nothing short of a challenge.”

“Revenue declined due to financial mismanagement. The days of misgovernance are now over.”

Goal to Make Delhi a “Model City”

This year’s budget primarily focuses on welfare schemes and infrastructure, with CM Gupta reiterating her commitment to making Delhi a “Model City”.
