In a shocking turn of events, two policemen were roughed up for asking a gang of seven men to follow lockdown guidelines.

As per media report, the seven men were standing in front of a bakery and eating, without any social distancing and they did not have masks. When the two policemen told these men they should not gather around and should follow the norms, the men taunted the cops and roughed them up.

Police constable Anjan Reddy and head constable Ramachandrappa were on patrolling duty at 12.45 pm when they saw these men outside Madhina bakery at Kurutahalli Cross.

When asked about masks, the men allegedly quipped, how could they eat with masks on. The police instructed them to follow rules that were in place due to the spread of Covid-19 scare, and the men pushed and assaulted the cops. The policemen called for additional force, but six of them managed to flee and one was nabbed.

They tore the constable’s uniform and also pushed him against a wall. Passersby who saw the scuffle came to the cops’ help, but the men fled. “The accused who was nabbed and brought to police station has been identified as K Seshadri, 36, of Chintamani. He is said to be a daily wage labourer.

The accused argued with the policemen saying that they cannot eat if they are wearing masks. As the bakery had only takeaway service the cops had advised the men to move away after taking their parcels, but they did not budge,” said an officer.

The injured police constable has undergone treatment at a government hospital and his statements were recorded before a duty doctor. However, a case has been registered against the accused.
