PBKS IPL 2023 Retention: PBKS with the second largest purse heading into the auction for the 2023 edition, are looking for a new direction. The Kings released nine players, including Mayank Agarwal, their captain last season, after appointing a new captain in Shikhar Dhawan and a new coach in Trevor Bayliss. Odean Smith is the franchise’s other big name to be released.
They recently appointed senior Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan as captain of Punjab Kings, implying that the 2014 finalists are not interested in retaining their former captain Mayank Agarwal, who was retained by Punjab Kings for a whopping INR 12 Crore ahead of the IPL 2022 mega-auction.
In the 2022 edition of the cash-rich league, Agarwal failed to deliver both as a batter and as a leader, scoring only 196 runs in 13 matches at a poor average of 16.33 and a strike rate of 122.50.
Apart from the Karnataka batter, Punjab Kings are also likely to release Tamil Nadu all-rounder Shahrukh Khan, who has failed to live up to expectations despite being given a longer rope.
