Udupi railway station: Santhosh Kumar Jha, Director of Operations of Konkan Railway, announced on Tuesday, September 12 at the Udupi railway station that “pod hotels and a magnificent executive lounge will be created for the passengers at the Udupi railway station of the Konkan railway.”
After opening the Udupi railway station’s newly renovated retiring rooms, he was meeting with media representatives.
Santhosh Kumar Jha stated of the pod hotel concept, “Udupi is a hub for education and tourism, and lots of people come here. A brand-new idea, the pod hotel is already operational in Mumbai and Chennai, among other Indian railway stations. A pod hotel facility will be useful because students come to this city in great numbers, often accompanied by their parents. The pod hotel facilities can be used for 6, 12, 18, or 24 hours depending on the needs of the passengers, whilst the other hotels will have standard check-in and check-out times. There aren’t many organizations offering these services. We have spoken with these organizations and looked into the space that is available as well as other conditions for the development of a pod hotel facility at the Udupi train station. We’ll put out requests for proposals for the project within the next three months. This will save between 2,000–3,000 square feet and cost between Rs 35 and Rs 40 lacs. We’re hoping to construct 40 to 60 pods, and the going rate elsewhere is likely to be around Rs 400 for 6 hours for guests.

Santhosh Jha added, “We had previously provided an airport-like executive lounge facility in Madgaon railway station of the Konkan railway,” when describing the future executive lounge facility at Udupi railway station. It is excellent and accommodating to passengers. An executive lounge will also be built in Udupi along the same lines. I’m hoping that within the following three months, bids will also be solicited for this project. High-cushioned sofas, a television, armrest chairs, a massage room, a 24-hour information display, a pantry, and Wi-Fi will all be available in the executive lounge. At the Madgaon station, the current rate for two hours is Rs 50.
According to him, there is a discrepancy between the supply and demand for Vande Bharath trains. But on the line between Mangaluru and Madgaon, we are hoping to see Vande Bharath trains. The railroad industry works on capital-intensive projects. In relation to the doubling of Konkan railway lines, we have written to the minister. This is being thought upon. The Konkan railway has been fully electrified, and 60–70% of the trains now run on electric locomotives. We also value the presence of warehousing facilities at railroad terminals. In this case, Udupi and Thokur have received more attention. In the following three months, a brand-new, enormous warehouse will be built here,” he continued.
On this occasion, Santhosh Jha also dedicated the brand-new retiring room facilities. Konkan Railways Karwar, manager of the B B Nikam Regional Railway, was also present.
