Kieron Pollard, a former West Indies and Mumbai Indians batter, announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday. This means that one of the best IPL finishers will no longer compete in the league. Pollard, on the other hand, will continue to work as batting coach for the Mumbai Indians next season.

Pollard announced his retirement on Twitter, saying that even though he will no longer play for the Mumbai Indians, he cannot see himself playing against them – “Once a MI, always a MI.” Pollard tweeted in a lengthy post, “It hasn’t been an easy decision to make because I will continue to play for a few more years, but I understand that this incredible franchise that has accomplished so much needs to transition, and if I’m no longer to play for MI, I can’t see myself playing against MI either. An MI is always a MI. I am extremely proud, honoured, and blessed to have represented the IPL’s largest and most successful team for the past 13 seasons. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mukesh, Nita, and Akash Ambani for their unwavering love, support, and respect, as well as the trust they have placed in me. I recall our first meeting, when they greeted me with open arms and said, “We are family.” Those were not just words; they were demonstrated by their every action during my time with the Mumbai Indians.”

Pollard has been one of the marquee players for the franchise since signing with them in 2010, winning many games with his all-around performances. Pollard has 3,412 runs at an average of 28.67 in 189 matches for the team, with 16 half-centuries. For the five-time champions, he has also taken 69 wickets. However, his final season with MI was underwhelming. He only managed 144 runs at an average of 14.40 in 11 matches, with the highest score of 25. He hit these runs at a 107.46 percent strike rate. In addition, he only took four wickets for his team during the tournament.

The Mumbai Indians’ most experienced player, five-time IPL winner Kieron Pollard, has been released, ending a 13-year association that began in 2010, when Pollard was acquired for an unknown price using the tie-breaker method. By November 15, 2022, Indian Premier League franchises must submit their list of retained players. The 10 participating teams in the 16th edition of the IPL will be working hard to get their squad as ready as possible for the mini-auction on December 23, 2022, in Kochi.
