Bihar coronavirus updates: COVID-19 cases cross 40k mark, FIR filed against 26 people for violating Covid protocols

Bihar’s coronavirus tally has already crossed 40K mark. With 812 new COVID-19 cases on July 26, the total number of cases has surged to 41,111, according to the health department.

The state health department also informed that a total of 12,461 samples were tested on Saturday, and 24,520 patients have been cured and discharged till now. The recovery rate of coronavirus in the state stands at 67.52 percent, which is slightly higher than the national average of 63.54 percent. On July 25, 1,048 positive cases were recorded in the state.

Patna district is the worst affected with the highest number of COVID-19 cases, followed by Bhagalpur, Gaya, and East Champaran.

On Sunday, seven doctors of PMCH were tested positive for the infection. A large number of doctors and staff have been found positive so far. This has also affected the functioning of the state.

Bihar’s first COVID-19 dedicated hospital, Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) has repeatedly grabbed attention for no good reasons. Last week, at least two videos, shot purportedly by horrified surviving patients or their attendants, of the bodies lying for hours on end on adjacent beds and invited outrage on the social media.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed against 26 people in Bihar for violating social distancing norms while protesting against the cremation of COVID-19 victims at Bansghat crematorium. The people who took out a procession on Sunday had also not taken permission from the authorities concerned, a release from the district administration said.

The case has been lodged based on a letter written by the magistrate deputed at Bansghat, Station House Officer (SHO) of the police station Ravi Shankar Singh said. The people belonging to the north Mandiri area of the state capital feared risk to their health as the bodies of COVID-19 patients are being cremated on wooden logs at Bansghat, the SHO said.
